No matter where you live or how much you know about space, you can
learn to stargaze without a telescope and how to spot wonders above
you in the night sky. All it takes is a few basic tips to transform
the twinkling lights over head into your window to a wider
universe.
With our telescopes you will see the night sky like you've never seen it before. We can show you craters and mountains on the Moon, the cloud bands on Jupiter and the moons of Jupiter. Have you ever seen a colorful nebula? The night sky is full of clouds of gas and dust illuminated by nearby stars. We can take you there through the lens of a telescope and we guarantee you will be awed by their colorful beauty. Would you like to journey to another world? We can glimpse entire galaxies of stars over a million light years from earth. As you gaze into another world you can't help but wonder if anyone is up therelooking back at us.
The Shreveport Bossier Astronomical Society has been looking up since 1959. Join us for a special "Star Party" and you will never again look at the night sky the same way.
The Shreveport Observatory is located about 8 miles south of the LSU-Shreveport campus, off Hwy. 1. Go south on Hwy. 1, turn onto Hwy. 175 and go about 1.7 miles. Turn onto Astronomical Observatory Rd. and go about 100 yards to the observatory. See the included map.
