Girl Scouts Doing Good
GSLPG is partnering with Goodwill Industries to Do Good in Louisiana! Goodwill Industries' mission is improving people's lives through the power of work and GSLPG is thrilled to work together to achieve that goal by Doing Good in their own communities.
To prepare the girls to understand the importance of giving back to the communities we challenge them to participate in an essay contest. Girls will write on the theme of "Doing Good." What does it mean to do good? Who did you learn this from? Why is it so important that we always try to do good? How has doing good for others affected you?
Girls will have until April 5th to complete and submit their essay. Essays must be submitted to email@example.com in PDF format, 12 point font, and double spaced. Essay word length requirments are as follows:
Daisies - 50 words Brownies - 100 words
Juniors - 200 words Cadettes - 300 words
Seniors - 500 words Ambassadors - 500 words
Title page must include essay title, Girl Scout's name, age, Girl Scout level, troop number, and service unit number.
Essay winners will be notified by April 16th and will be awarded at a celebration event on May 5th. Each winner will also receive a free summer camp of their choice! Remember, the deadline to submit essays to firstname.lastname@example.org is Thursday, April 5th!
During the month of April, Girl Scouts in our council will be able to donate items to designated Goodwill store in their areas, and will encourage community members to get involved too! All girls that donate a kitchen size trash bag filled with items will receive a patch. Girls must drop off items at one of our designated Goodwill stores:
To ensure girls receive their patch, they will need to request a receipt for their donation. The receipt - with girl's name and troop number written on it - should then be sent to email@example.com, or dropped off at the nearest GSLPG office location.
This will be a friendly competition between GSLPG's northern regions and GSLPG's southern regions. The region that donates the most pounds will be the winner!
This event is based on our Life Skills pillar where all girls that participate will learn the importance of giving back to their community and to help those in need. Girl Scouts have the ability to make a difference in the world!
The Big Events
